Blogiversary Giveaway #3 – handmade burger love from girlscantell!

August 18th, 2009 · 13 Comments · blogiversary, giveaways, jaimeshake, philly

We’re halfway through our blogiversary month already and I’m really excited for this week’s giveaway.  But first, a little backstory:

It was a dark and stormy night; the wind howled through the trees like wolves on a mountaintop.

Ok – that’s not true.

I think it was an ordinary day in Philadelphia.  A few months ago Jess and I were mingling with Sara S. from the handmade shop girlscantell.  Sara chooses random everyday and iconic objects, hand draws a diagram of them, and screenprints them on totes, tea towels, shirts, etc.  Jess and I just couldn’t help but laughingly suggest a few diagrams to add to her repertoire:  a burger and a sundae (for our respective favorite foods).

About a month passed, and with the blogiversary looming an idea struck me.  Why not officially commission Sara to create a burger diagram as a giveaway?  And not just any old burger, but an In-N-Out burger.  I sent Sara a number of pictures for her research, and behold!  I give you the latest girlscantell diagram:  the infamous In-N-Out double-double.  I am so happy with how it all turned out – Sara did such an amazing job!

So, here’s what’s up for grabs this week:

One set of four placemats with the lovely double-double diagram along with a screenprinted DD oven mitt! All courtesy of girlscantell.

Ok so to win:  leave a comment describing your “namesake burger”, if one were to exist.  The Jaimeshake burger, for example, would be a crispy black bean patty covered with melted monterey jack, avocado slices, lettuce, tomato, and chipotle mayo.  I’ll leave the comments open until this Thursday at 5pm (try to leave us an email address as well!).  Winner will be announced on Friday.

Just for fun, here are a couple pics of Sara making the giveaway oven mitt in her studio:

And if you don’t win, check out the girlscantell Etsy page for all of her items – the burger diagram should be for sale shortly.

i have to *have* those oven mitts! they are so freaking cute! great job girlscantell!

my namesake burg would have to be named the “apples and cheese, please” because i can’t ever stop raving over anything with that combo. a monstrous all-beef patty would be positioned on some pumpernickel, topped (in this order) with some thick slices of granny smiths, slivers of caramelized onions, and swiss. oh yeah, and probably some ketchup on the side, for dipping. mmmmm!

My signature burger would be the Frankenburger – ground hot dog meat! It would be topped by any traditional hot dog topping: sauerkraut, relish, chili, onions, etc.

The Karam Burger: A juicy 8oz. beef patty seasoned with salt and pepper; a slice of melty American cheese; a thin layer of ketchup; a leaf of butterhead lettuce; a slice of tomato; a thin layer of mayo. Sesame seed bun, lightly toasted. Pickle spear on the side. Accompanied with thin-cut fries mingling with some fried leeks. Sorry, this establishment only accepts “medium rare” orders.

i’m not trying to win my own wares, but the idea of coming up with a namesake burger is so fun!

how about a girlscantell garden burger? a petite 6 oz patty with grilled asparagus spears, a sliver of avocado, a thin slice of tomato, a little cheese (havarti, perhaps?), a slice of romaine and microscopically thin pickles. oh, and ketchup.

you guys are making me hungry!

    ‘the swisewoman’
sourdough toasted, medium rare all beef burger, provolone cheese, avocado, ketchup, lettuce, tomato.

    simple but good. :)

    Okay, now I’m really hungry!

I’d call mine the Kane Classic: seasame seed bun lightly toasted with a layer of mayo on the bottom bun and a layer of mayo and ketchup mixed together on the top, yummy medium rare beef patty with a melted slice of provolone, topped with romaine lettuce, a thick slice of an heirloom tomato, 3 – 4 bread and butter pickles, a side of sweet potato french fries, and an orange creamsicle milkshake to wash it all down.

    Mmm mmm!

woops, forgot to leave my email and/or a link to it.

Did you know that a burger and fries is my death row meal?

Mine would have to be a slightly sweet bun, bbq sauce, fried onions, lettuce, tomato, and a salty, big organic burger patty mixed with blue cheese. And you know what? Throw some bacon on there as well, organic, of course.

  • Kate

The Katypuss – 1/3 lb. of farm fresh and friendly ground turkey with shredded zucchini, shredded sharp cheddar cheese, sliced green onion (scallion) topped with melted Oaxaca cheese and Chester County Shittake mushrooms fried crisp in butter. The bun? Whole grain, of course!

  • Susan

The Slinky Slider – 1/3 of a pound of grass fed happy cow, grilled. Seconds before removing the meat from the grill, brush with lemon thyme sprigs dipped in melted butter, sprinkle with Kosher coarse salt. Then top with a square of muenster cheese until it just starts to ooze over the edge. No roll (watching my carbs!), but a nice thick slice of a Ramapo (a variety that’s been MIA for years) Jersey tomato and a tiny dollop of homemade (Julia Child’s recipe) mayonnaise. So good…I always have two!

  • Susan

Ooops! The Slinky Slider is only 3 oz., not 1/3 of a pound. At least not all in one burger! Two are so much more delectable!
