Another week and another burger special from PYT. This week I treated myself to the BOTW after a long day in the library. Two days a week I work about 14 hours straight in two different libraries. Working two library gigs ensures me enough chedda’ for my burger eating lifestyle. I only bring this up because this means that I was eating a burger with spicy salsa on it after 10 pm for you, my dear readers. Yes I had some weird dreams. But enough about my work schedule, let’s get to this burger.
The Tijuana burger comes topped with lettuce, your choice of spicy salsa verde or mild roasted chipotle salsa, pepper jack cheese, guacamole and tortilla strips. Foobooz mentioned that the patty is seasoned with chili and cayenne, which I didn’t get from the patty. The seasoning of the patty might have just been less noticeable because of the many other flavor components of the burger. I chose the salsa verde because I like a little heat. It was also the most popular option that day, as stated by my server, so I thought I would stick with the majority.
I was happy with my salsa verde selection. It was spicy but not so much so that I couldn’t enjoy the burger. I love guacamole on everything so this was a very nice addition. My favorite part of this burger though were the tortilla strips. I know right. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy them as much as I did but they added a little crunch to the burger which was very enjoyable. May I add that even with all of these toppings I was still able to taste the fine meatiness of the patty. PYT’s patties always come out juicy which is a reason I will keep coming back. Note to burger joints: juicy burger = happy Jess.
I was a little surprised to see no fries on my plate. I thought I had read on the internets that fries were included but in my exhausted/starving state I didn’t ask. I think Tommy Up owes me some fries. Kidding. Fries and Mexican street corn might have been carb overkill. I still would have eaten them both, don’t get me wrong. I liked the idea of the side of corn with my burger but it wasn’t a huge success for me. I think I would have enjoyed it more had it been more generously smothered in that delicious spicy cotija cheese concoction that topped the corn.
I have to say that I have been enjoying these BOTW at PYT. They aren’t the kind of burgers that I would generally eat so they are forcing me to reconsider what I enjoy in a burger. You could say I’m thinking outside the bun. Oh no I didn’t.

Glad you liked it!
Initially we were going to do fries along with the corn, but when we plated it… it just felt like overkill.
Ah ha! That makes a lot of sense, there wasn’t a lot of room on the plate.
