Table Matters

I want to direct you all to Table Matters, if you are not already familiar with it. When I read the following from their about page I was immediately smitten:

Table Matters is an online publication about the intersection of food, drink, and culture from people who dream about lunch during breakfast, dinner during lunch, cocktails during work, dessert during dinner, and breakfast before bedtime. We recognize that food is more than just what we put in our mouths …This is why we get excited when we hear food and drink discussed in news and pop culture. And it’s why we celebrate eating an adventurous, gourmet eight-course meal as much as sharing grilled cheese sandwiches with friends.

My thoughts exactly. The site is loaded with recipes, food essays and booze. It’s got something for everyone. Oh and I can’t help but mention that my very funny friend Meg is managing editor and you should visit this site as well. It has nothing to do with food but it will direct you to opportunities to see her perform.

I was lucky enough to attend the Table Matters launch party at Apothecary. While I totally did not take any pictures I can tell you one thing about this place. It is the perfect place for cocktail nerds. They really know how to shake a cocktail, it was pretty impressive. The cocktail nerd ahead of me, at the bar, was pretty excited about agave nectar (he asked to smell it!) they used for the la paloma which also consisted of Siembre Azule 100% Agave Tequila Blanco, fresh lime, fresh grapefruit, housemade seltzer and sea salt. It was tasty.

I also met Arthur from Foobooz and I got to thank him in person for linking to our site. We had a really enjoyable discussion, along with a professor from my grad program, about food blogs and Philadelphia food history. It was great being around so many people who loved food just as much as I do.

    That website is awesome. I’ve been a fan since I stumbled upon it. Would have loved to attend that launch party! Agave nectar is awesome. I use it in vegan baking at A Full Plate and in my home when making low-sugar desserts. It’s sweeter than sugar but metabolizes quickly without spiking your blood sugar. Good for diabetics, like me.

    I also love agave nectar, and I’ll be psyched when it’s regularly stocked at the plain ol’ supermarket.
