I swear I am only doing this for my mom who sometimes reads this blog. Also, this was so much fun to be a part of and I like sharing.
I was asked to be a part of the first Food Faceoff (read first) with Philly Mag’s Restaurant Club. This is a series where the Restaurant Club will compare a classic Philly dish with the new kid in town. Doesn’t that sound like fun? Don’t you wish every faceoff was like this? You know instead of like this:
So this faceoff was all about burgers and who better to help with such a task than moi. I thank Joy and Ashley for letting me be a part of this fun challenge. I was happy to try the Rouge burger again because it has been a few years since I last had it. I tried to have an open mind about this burger because I already knew that I had a bias because of my love for the Village Whiskey burger. See here and here.
I really wanted to love the Rouge burger. I remember being blown away by it’s flavor the first time I ate it. This was not the case during the faceoff visit. No flavor. It’s like they had some crazy flavor reducer gun in the kitchen that took away any possible deliciousness of the burger. Even with the gruyère and caramelized onions as toppings, still nothing. It wasn’t inedible but dude it was a bummer. I am not one to usually share negative reviews on my blog. I just really enjoy talking about things I love. BUT for $16 dollars, Rouge you better step it up. You can’t rest on your laurels forever. I am only saying this because a number of folks have asked why burger club hasn’t met there yet and this is why. Overpriced and overhyped.
