I love any opportunity where I get to step outside my blog and participate in something a little more respectable and not necessarily about how I eat and drink like an idiot. Let’s face it, it’s true. When I was contacted by Karina (First Person Arts maven and fellow Philly food blogger) to be a part of the First Person Arts Family Recipe Series, I knew just what family recipe and story I would share.

It’s no secret that I owe a lot to the Italian-American side of my family for my ability to eat just about anything. At age 12 I was helping my dad prep the calamari for Christmas Eve and eating the tentacles like a champ. The smell of my grandma’s kitchen might be my most favorite childhood memory.  My love of cooking and connecting with people through food are also two things I got from the Rossi kitchen. Oh and yelling. Lots of yelling. Mostly good yelling.
