What food comforts when you feel like crap?

June 8th, 2009 · 1 Comment · comfort food, jaimeshake

Friday night really really blew chunks.  Literally.  I was working my part-time job at a local movie theater when all of a sudden I just felt…wrong.  Very, very wrong.  My manager and I happened to be chatting and all of a sudden I said “I don’t feel so good” and high-tailed it to the ladies room.  Nothing too heinous happened in that particular trip, but 20 minutes later I was seriously sick, buckled over in the ladies’ room.  Long story short:  Friday night was a hot mess involving the toilet bowl, cold sweats, cramps, back pain, fitful sleep, and dreaming about Facebook, of all things.

The rest of my weekend consisted of catching up on magazines and watching bad television while stuck on the couch.  I was so bummed because my friend Noelle was hosting a fabulous potluck Saturday night in which everyone had to bring food/drink made locally.  I missed the first one so I was seriously looking forward to the second (you can read Burgerbaroness’ recaps here).  Oy.  Instead, I chained myself to the couch armed with saltines, ginger ale, and chicken noodle soup from Mr. Wong’s (my favorite Chinese food spot).  Whenever I’m sick, no matter what the ailment, I want a few things:  classic chicken noodle soup, salty and no frills, cold ginger ale, regular saltines, and my grandma.  I don’t always get that last one.  Comfort food in general is what I love the most, but soup, crackers, and ginger ale are ultimately what it boils down to for me.  I guess you can’t get any more basic than that.

What foods do you long for when you’re feeling under the weather or less than stellar?

(The picture quality is a little off, sorry.  Still trying to figure out the camera on my new phone.)
